UK Sport has finally set its eyes on hosting the Womens World Cup 2030 in Britain for the first time. Simon Morton, the deputy CEO of UK Sport, stated that the organisation would be advancing its plan to focus on urban and e-sports because the growing interest of Saudi Arabia had made it harder to bid for big sporting events. The Women’s World Cup might be hosted on British soil in 2031, as confirmed by UK sporting.
“The Women’s World Cup is the biggest sporting event that the UK has never hosted and so in that respect, it has a special appeal to us,” said Morton. “There is definitely an aspiration to host it in the 2030s.” The Women’s World Cup is described by UK Sport as “the biggest global sporting event the UK has never hosted”.
The competition has been involved in one of the 70 major events, UK has aimed of holding between now and 2040 to “help retain the UK’s position as a world-leading host nation”.
However, the way towards securing the hosting rights is not a bed full of roses. The bidding process for the 2027 event is currently underway, with Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands jointly waiting for the opportunity. If this European bid gets successful, it would restrain another European nation from bidding until 2035, complicating England’s aims further.
In addition to the European competition, England is facing competition from Saudi Arabia, which had already conveyed its interests in hosting the Women’s World Cup in 2035.
