Subrata Roy a founder of Sahara India Pariwar died on november 14, 2023 because of cardiorespiratory arrest that occurred after unsuccessful struggle with metastatic cancer, arterial and diabetes. Roy was born on 10 June, 1948 at Araria, Bihar. He had studied mechanical engineering from which he rose to be chairman for one of the biggest corporatas in India.
Subrata Roy embarked on his business journey at Gorakhpur and transformed a small firm called Sahara Finance company into gigantic multi conglomerated Sahra India Pariwar in just two years. One such example was that of Sahara india Pariwar, once regarded as India’s second largest employer when it acquired Grosvenor House Hotel in London and New York’s Plaza hotel from USA as part of its global vision quest.
However, despite legal barriers, for instance, the 2014 Supreme Court ruling on his arrest, Roy’s significance in the global market was unparalleled. A great man who decorated his long standing career with awards and honours like honourary doctorate and Business Icon of the Year. The 1.2 million strong work-force of Time magazine’s recognized Sahara India Pariwar as one of the nation’s largest contributors.
Subrata Roy, in his latter life was still entrepreneurial with companies like Sahara e-Vol, offering electric cars, into rural areas and Edunguru, a push into rural online education. Bid farewell Subrat Roy whose legacy will forever represent resilience, innovation, and courage.
