On Thursday, a Punjab tourist was killed by assault by a crowd that had gone wild and the reason being cited is “sitting arrangement” at a dhaba. The incident occurred in Bhagsunag in the vicinity of Dharamshala in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. A friend group of four from Phagwara had stopped to have lunch at a dhaba near Dharamshala when a fight arose between the owner of the eatery and the four friends. The deceased is identified to be 33-year-old, Navdeep Singh from Phagwara which is the district of Kapurthala in Punjab.
According to a police official, the tourist group were assaulted by the owner of the dhaba along with his employees and local people.
Per the eyewitness statement, the crowd also consisted of local taxi drivers. The official further stated, “Navdeep fell on the ground and lost consciousness. He was declared ‘brought dead’ by doctors at a local hospital. We have sent the body for postmortem, and the exact cause of death will be known after that. Shalini Agnihotri, the SP of Kangra also said that so far six assailants have been taken into custody and a murder case has been filed at the McLeodganj police station.
