Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a grand entrance into Varanasi on Thursday, heralding a wave of development initiatives set to redefine the city’s landscape. The action-packed agenda includes inaugurating crucial projects, engaging in official events, and addressing the public.
On Friday, festivities kick off at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) with the Prime Minister participating in the Sansad Sanskrit Pratiyogita prize distribution program. At 11:15 am, a spiritual start awaits as PM Modi performs ‘pooja’ and seeks blessings at Sant Guru Ravidas Janmasthali. Subsequently, at 11:30 am, the city will witness the commemoration of the 647th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas.
Sharing his excitement, the Prime Minister highlighted the recent success of the Shivpur-Phulwaria-Lahartara Marg project, which has significantly benefitted residents in the southern part of the city.
In the afternoon, a pivotal public function awaits, where projects worth over Rs 13,000 crore will be inaugurated and have their foundation stones laid. Road connectivity takes center stage with the inauguration of the four-laning of National Highway 233’s Ghargra-Bridge-Varanasi section and National Highway 56’s Sultanpur-Varanasi section.
Energizing industrial growth, Modi is set to inaugurate an HPCL LPG bottling plant in Sewapuri, the Banas Kashi Sankul milk processing unit, and various infrastructure projects at UPSIDA Agro Park, Karkhiyaon. A boost to the textile sector comes in the form of the foundation stone for the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Varanasi.
The health sector witnesses a substantial uplift with the laying of the foundation stone for a new medical college and the National Centre of Ageing at Banaras Hindu University. Not forgetting sports enthusiasts, the inauguration of Sigra Sports Stadium Phase-1 and the District Rifle Shooting Range is on the cards.
The Sant Guru Ravidas Janmasthali temple at Seer Govardhanpur near BHU becomes a focal point as the Prime Minister unveils a newly-installed statue of Sant Ravidas. Around Rs 32 crore is allocated for various developmental works in the vicinity, complemented by the laying of the foundation stone for the Sant Ravidas Museum and park beautification, valued at approximately Rs. 62 crore.
