Jagdish Kumar, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), has assured that the concerns encountered by candidates in the previous iteration of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will be resolved in the upcoming edition. “The student had some problems and all those problems have been taken care of and addressed.
Last year, the CUET was a computer-based exam but now we are introducing OMR and the CUET will be held in a hybrid mode so that the college and school centres can be used and students get an opportunity to appear in the exam close to their homes, ”he said in the media briefing on the sidelines of last national conference on NEP at IIM Jammu, here today.
It may be refreshed that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had raised the issue last year that CUET exam centres were lacking in Jammu and Kashmir to the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan (where several students were allotted centres outside the Union Territory and they had to travel around 300 km for it).
Stress on the students was too much when the earlier admissions in universities used to be based on board marks and the chairman of the UGC claimed that stress has been gone after the inclusion of CUET and everybody is getting a level playing field. “CUET has resulted in total transformation and consolidated national integration,” mentioned Shri P.C. Besides, students will be able to leverage better science and technology facilities because a greater pool of entrance examination venues can accommodate more students.
The UGC Chairman also proposed appointing an ombudsman in the universities and colleges as well as students’ problem committees, to keep the problems of students to be addressed.
