A man raped his wife while his wife was present at the spot. The victim stated that the couple forced her to change her religion by threatening to expose her blooming photos.
In Karnataka’s Belagavi, a woman has accused a man of raping her in front of his wife and also accused the couple of forcing her to change her religion to Islam. According to a news report, an FIR has been lodged against seven people who were also connected with the case. The victim also stated in her complaint that she was forced to wear burqa and restricted to using ‘kumkum’.
The prime suspect, identified as Rafik, and his wife have been accused of using the woman’s explicit photos to blackmail her to follow their wishes, such as changing her religion from Hinduism to Islam. From a news report, it is known that, in 2023, she was forced to move into the couple’s house in Belgavi, the spot where she was raped.
Belagavi Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhimashankar Guleda told India Today that the woman was also forced to perform namaz five times a day. The couple would allegedly often use caste-based slurs and tell her that she would have to convert “because she belongs to a backward caste.” According to the investigation, the woman was forced to divorce her husband; otherwise, her blooming photos would be leaked.
On the basis of the victim’s statement, an FIR has been lodged against seven people who were charged under the Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act, the IT Law, and also the SC/ST Act. For kidnapping, rape, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation, an FIR was also lodged in the in the IPC sections.
