An Ambulance Driver drove his vehicle into pedestrians. Allegedly, he was under the influence of liquor causing him to injure six pedestrians, including a woman. This case took place in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. The accused has been identified as 30-Year Old Waseem Sheikh.
An official of the Central Kotwali Police Station stated that “Six persons were injured after being hit by the ambulance, and they were hospitalised,”. He added “Following the accident, people caught hold of the ambulance driver, who they found was drunk. After beating him up, they handed him over to the police. He was so much under the influence of liquor that he could not even tell his name,”.
The woman is in a serious condition. Others suffered multiple fractures and are currently under medical supervision. The accused received his drivers license a month ago. The man was driving an ambulance of all the vehicles, a vehicle which is used to transport vulnerable and weak people seeking for better health care.Such a destructive mistake took place.
Despite strict rules to prohibit drinking and driving, it has not stopped individuals from doing so. What made an Ambulance Driver do this? Did he think that he wouldn’t be tested to check if he was drunk as he was driving an emergency care vehicle? He lost control under the influence of alcohol and brutally injured several people in the areas of Central Kotwali and Tukoganj.
Is this a wake up call for the Police to be more rigid with the rules? No matter how many regulations are implemented to prevent such cases, no one can predict such acts and stop individuals from drinking and driving. Such petty acts can be stopped only through self reflection and realisation.
