The Railways Ministry has been diligently engaging with the public on social media, exhibiting captivating images of railway stations across India and providing updates on railway developments. In a recent move, the ministry has accepted the trend of utilising memes and viral phrases to promote rail safety. A meme post shared on Wednesday humorously encourages passengers not to sit at the train door, by using the phrase “Baithne ka tarika thoda casual hai”. Railway Ministry embraces memes as a medium to educate the public.
Along with the post, the Railways stressed the need to be a #ResponsibleRailYatri and avoid sitting at the train door for safety measures. The meme shows an image of two passengers sitting at the train door with the caption,” Baithne Ka Tarika Bada Casual H”. This phrase earned popularity last year when IAS interviewer Vijender Chauhan used it during a consulting session, creating a viral meme sensation.
Some social media users found amusement in the post while others raised concerns and suggestions regarding railway safety. One of the users asked the Railways to enhance passenger services by initiating more trains and seats, ensuring punctuality, and improving seat management. Another suggested implementing a safety feature where train doors automatically at a certain speed.
Stating a more empathetic perspective, a third user proposed employing undercover officers in unreserved compartments to survey and understand the hurdles faced by passengers and explore potential solutions.
This isn’t the first time for the Railways to hop on to a viral trend. In November 2023 the Ministry of Railways shared images of Vande Bharat Express from Kerala, using the viral line “So beautiful, so elegant” to describe the trains. Railway’s new measures to engage with the public are quite unique and effective as suggested by the reports.
