The government of Taiwan has estimated the number of wounded to be 946.
Lai Ching-te, the elected President talked while standing outside a crumbled building in Hualien, “At present, the most important thing, the top priority, is to rescue people.” According to Lai’s statement to the reporters, the railway connection to the area was anticipated to revive on Thursday.
As per reports by the central news agency, the earthquake was the strongest after the 1999 one that recorded a 7.6 magnitude and took the lives of 2400 individuals as well as ruined and demolished 50,000 buildings.
The weather experts in Taiwan classified this earthquake as “Upper 6”, better known as the second-highest level of strength in the range of 1-7.
