Delhi police on February 29, arrested 36-year-old man ( Manjeet Singh) TALA-CHABI SIKLIGAR GANG member from a village near Udaipur in connection with theft case where he and his group member pretended as a key maker to access people house.
The sikligar members mainly operating from Indoor in Madhya Pradesh and Udaipur and Banswara in Rajasthan. They would infiltrate residents colonies in Delhi and pretend as key smith during day time. They used to make unattended houses and lock doors there main targets for robbery. After committing crime, they would escape from the city which creates hurdles for police authority to catch them.
The police got to know about the racket, when a mandir Marg resident Pankaj Kumar informed police about the robbery case in his house.
According to victim, he had called upon the locksmith (sikligar member) from the street to repair his almirah’s lock. The locksmith told him the cupboard’s handle need to be repaired and that he would come the next day. After which the following day the accused along with his group members reached the victim house on afternoon and on the pretext of checking the key, unlocked another cupboard and stole gold jewellery and cash worth Rs. 20,000-25,000.
The police, with the help of CCTV cameras probe the case, which lead them to a hotel in Paharganj, where suspicious individuals has recently checked-in and subsequently scram after the incident .
Through a combination of CCTV camera analysis , local intelligence arrested the accused Manjeet Singh from his hideout area in the pratab Nagar near Udaipur .
After recovering the robbery amounts, the Manjeet Singh was arrested under section 380/34 of Indian penal code (IPC) for theft . additionally, Manjeet Singh disclosed his connection with “ sikligar gang “ and also informed police about his group member , Gurmukh Singh ,a resident of Banswara,Rajasthan .
Despite ongoing effort to apprehend Gurmukh Singh, he remain at large prompting authorities to take steps to declare him a proclaimed offender.
