According to Delhi police, the “smart” burglars utilised keywords on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to target empty homes with people out of town.
A burglar was apprehended on the charges of burglary in the Greater Kailash area of South Delhi and discovered that he used keywords to find houses to target that had the citizens of the house leaving the city as well as research about the house and the people.
The Delhi police have arrested the robber named Aman Bagga whereas his associate, Sanjiv alias Fauzi is at large. Bagga is a resident of Lajpat Nagar as well as Sanjiv.
Following his arrest, he confessed that the GK family had shared regarding a Haridwar trip on their social media. With the usage of keywords on social media platforms, he along with Sanjiv gathered details of families leaving their homes unguarded. After further research, they would then target a particular house.
The burglar was aware that since Haridwar is nearby, the family would come back home that night, hence they had to perform the heist in that time without the family catching them in the act.
Per case information, on the morning of 3rd January at around 11 AM, the police were given a tipoff with a PCR call concerning a robbery in the Greater Kailash area where a responding team was sent instantly. The aggrieved disclosed that he and his family went on a Haridwar trip on the 2nd of January and when he arrived back that same evening, they discovered the house burglarized and things robbed.
During their investigation, the police went through CCTV footage of more than 200 cameras in the Greater Kailash area and discovered in one of those footages, two men driving on a motorcycle with a bag which they found suspicious. They then identified one of them, namely Bagga and tracked him to Zamrudpur. So far, the police have regained various items such as jewellery and items of approximately Rs. 5 lakhs from Bagga.
