4 years after Bill passed, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) likely become reality today . PM Narendra Modi on Monday notified guidelines for CAA over the nation just weeks before the Lok Sabha election 2024.
Minutes after the rules were notified, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has steered the CAA, posted on X : “with this notification PM Shree Narendra Modi ji has delivered on another commitment and realized the promise of the makers of our constitution to the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain , parsis and Christians living in those (neighboring) country”.
In 2019 the Citizenship Amendment (CAA) act was passed by the parliament of India and was implemented on 2024 . under the act , the government will grant indian nationality to the Non-Muslims migrants persecuted on the ground of religious bases from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan who has came before the 2015.
A spoke person for the Home Minister said eligible applicants could submit applications in a completely online mode , no other documents will be required from the applicants , one official said.
With the implementation of CAA, raised a question against BJP government by the opposition parties for implementing the rules just weeks before Lok Sabha election, congress link notification timing to polarization.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has opposed the CAA back then, has said that she would fight against the rules if it “deprives” rights of the people.
“ let see the rules first . the notification has not yet issued . if people are deprived of there rights under the rules , then we will fight against It . This is BJP’s Publicity for election , it is nothing else,” The Trinamool congress chief Mamata Banerjee said at a press conference in Kolkata .
Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday in a statement said that CAA will not be implement in Kerala, “ the CAA is a law that creates division along the communities , the government has repeatedly stated that the citizenship Amendment Act, which treat Muslim minorities as a Second-class citizens, will not be implement in Kerala. That remines the position . All of Kerala will stand united in opposing this communally divisive law,” Vijayan said in statement .
