Several times, a volcano erupted in Indonesia on April 17. People are forced to be shifted after it spewed lava and a column of smoke more than a mile into the sky. On Thursday, rescuers evacuated thousands of people in Indonesia. This initiative was taken after a volcano erupted five times, authorities were asked to shut down a nearby international airport, and officials issued a warning about a possible tsunami threat. On Wednesday, after erupting the volcano over four times, the crater of Mount Ruang overnight flamed with lava against a backdrop of lightning bolts.
According to officials, the international airports near Manado city on Sulawesi island were asked to be shut down for 24 hours as the volcano in Indonesia is still billowing a column of smoke. According to the authorities statement, they were rushing to evacuate 11,000 residents from the nearby risky area, including the remote island of Tagulandang, which is home to 20,000 people. According to the official report, some residents were already trying to flee the area in such a panic situation.
On Thursday, an official from the local search and rescue agency named Jandry Paendong stated that last night people evacuated on their own but without direction due to the volcano’s eruption and materials in the form of small rocks that fell, so the people scattered to find evacuation routes. He also added that 20 staff were helping to evacuate residents of the coastline area, which is near the volcano. He called for more boats and equipment as it was needed so that his team could “carry out evacuation for people on the coast or near the coast” to face the volcano.
Tourists and residents were strictly warned to stay away from the six-kilometre exclusion zone. On Tuesday evening, after the first eruption and before four more eruptions on Wednesday, more than 800 people were primarily shifted to safety from Ruang to nearby Tagulandang island.
