According to the U.S. report, after 25 years, on Wednesday, Taiwan had a massive earthquake that shook the island country with a strong intensity of 7.4 on the Richter Scale. According to a geological survey, the country’s earthquake monitoring agency put the magnitude at 7.2. It is reported that more than nine people have died so far and over a thousand have been injured in the quake, which had its epicentre 18 km (11 miles) south of Hualien. Users are sharing the footage of the incident on social media, where it shows that scycraper buildings and landslides were shaking. The quake was strongly felt in the capital, Taipei, when the ripples went as far as Shanghai in China.
According to a media report, it is believed that more than 100 people are trapped under the collapsed buildings and roads along the coast line. Taiwan’s fire department stated that 1038 people are injured and 48 people are missing, including hotel workers. The disaster management command centre stated that the authorities are sending drones and helicopters to look for the hotel workers and will send supplies to save them.
On Thursday morning, in the Jinwen and Qingshui tunnels along Hualien Road, a rescue operation took place to reach 77 people. It is not yet revealed how long it will take to trace them, send supplies like food and water, or communicate with them. In a news report, Hsien-hsuen Keng, a resident of a fifth-floor apartment in Taipei, stated that he had grown accustomed to earthquakes. But today was the first time he was scared to tears by an earthquake. He also added that he was awakened by the earthquake. He had never felt such intense shaking before.
