On march 11,2024  the central government notified implementation of CAA ( Citizenship amendment act)  five years after it was passed in parliament in December 31, 2014.

Under the act the migrants from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan who are members of the Hindu, Sikh, Christain , Jain, parsi , Buddhist community and came to india before 2014, who are persecuted on the religious bases will grant a citizenship of india under the act .

The State with the Opposition parties and critics accused BJP (  Bhartiya Janta Party)  for notifying CAA just before the Lok Sabha election 2024.

200 Pleas send by critics to supreme court  claimed that CAA discriminate against the Muslim community. It has been argued that implementation of CAA infringes on Article 14’s right to equality.

In 2020, Kerala becomes the first state to knock the door of supreme court to challenge the CAA because it violated the indian constitution’s guarantees the right to equality. It has also filed the second case challenging the CAA rules.

Last week in front of supreme court Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal brought up  a plea filed by Kerala- based indian union Muslim league (IUML) . in petition IUML questioned central government for implementing CAA days before LOK Sabha election .
