“Jagpreet was obsessed with the idea of reaching Canada and had been forcing his wife to arrange his travel at the earliest” alleged Rajwinder Kaur, sister of the deceased. However, Jagpreet’s brother has denied the allegations and said that “no one knows what exactly happened between the couple”.
A week after he reached Canada, a 50 years old man from Ludhiana allegedly stabbed his wife to death in Abbotsford, Canada late Friday night (March 15)
The family of the deceased woman, identified as Balwinder Kaur (41) of Mallah Village of Jagraon, said that their daughter was stabbed to death by her husband Jagpreet Singh alias Raju (50), a resident of Kanchan Colony, Pakhowal road, Ludhiana. According to the deceased woman’s family, Jagpreet Singh has gone to Canada a week ago.
Rajwinder Kaur, sister of deceased Balwinder Kaur said that ” After stabbing my sister to death, Jagpreet made a video call to his mother back home in Ludhiana saying “main ehnu sada laayi sulata (I have put her to sleep forever)”.
Rajwinder futher alleged that Jagpreet was obsessed with the thought of reaching Canada and since Balwinder had reached there, he was forcing and harrassing her to arrange his travel also at the earliest. The couple also had regular arguments related to finances as Jagpreet had stopped working and was unemployed, she claimed.
However denying Rajwinder’s allegations Jagpreet Singh alias Romi his younger brother said “We are still unclear that what exactly happened that night between my brother and his wife, however he and our family never harrassed Balwinder Kaur. They were a happy couple and had returned from shopping few hours before the incident. After that incident my brother has called our mother to tell us that he injured his wife by mistake. He was asking for forgiveness. Nothing was intentional, no one knows what happened to the couple that night as their daughter was also away.”
According to their report in the Canadian media ” Abbotsford’s police (AbbyPD) responded to the report of an assualt in progress in a home along Wagner Drive on Friday March 15, around 10:50 pm “. Later they found Balwinder Kaur with life threatening stab wounds. First responders tried to save her life ,but she died shortly afterwards.
CBC News reported that “Balwinder Kaur’s husband Jagpreet Singh was charged with second-degree murder in relation to the fatal stabbing. He was arrested on the scene”.
Back in Mallah Village, Ludhiana, Jagraon Balwinder’s elderly father Himmat Singh (65) is in a state of shock . Balwinder was one of his four daughters . Once a labourer in Dubai, he is now mostly confined to bed due to health issues.
Rajwinder Kaur further said that Balwinder and Jagpreet had got married in 2000. The couple had two children- daughter Harnoorpreet Kaur (22) and son Gurnoor Singh (18).
Rajwinder said that Harnoorpreet had gone to Canada around four years ago on a study visa. However she had started facing health issues. “Then my sister Balwinder went to Canada in 2022 to take care of their daughter. However since the time she has reached there, her husband was constantly hectoring her to call him to Canada at the earliest. My sister was taking care of all expenses alone as Jagpreet had stopped working. Earlier he used to work as a driver, but when my sister started sending him money he stopped working. Balwinder was not only bearing all expenses for her daughter’s medical treatment and education alone but also used to send money to Jagpreet. But even then he was harrassing her to call him to Canada” alleged her sister.
Rajwinder Said before going to Canada her sister used to work at a private hospital in Ludhiana. “Now she was working at a store in Canada” she added “She had incurred some debts and borrowed money from her siblings to send her daughter to Canada. Even then Jagpreet used to harass her saying that she alone had to repay her debts, he won’t contribute” she alleged.
Rajwinder further alleged “On March 15 Jagpreet made a video call to his mother in Ludhiana, he turned the camera towards Balwinder who was lying unconscious with blood all around. Seeing the blood everyone on the other side including his mother, Gurnoor and other family members started screaming asking if Balwinder is alright. Then Jagpreet said “I have put her to sleep forever”.
