After the abolishment of Article 370, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged himself to go on his first Kashmir visit. Article 370 was added to the Indian Constitution, where it was stated that all the other articles of the constitution that gave the power to the central government would be applied with the consent of the State Constituent Assembly. But on August 5, 2019, after the abolishment of Article 370, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Kashmir to conduct the campaigns named ‘Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice Tourist Destination Poll’ and the ‘Chalo India Global Diaspora’.
After the cancellation of Article 370 by the Bhartiya Janta Party, the central government decided to partition Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, which sparked tension in the regions. Before the visit of PM Narendra Modi, many schools cancelled their classes on Wednesday and Thursday, which fall under his visit route; even board exams are also scheduled until next month. A high-class security guard has been charged to ensure a safe visit of PM Modi to Bhakti Stadium, where the prime minister’s rally is scheduled.
According to the reports, PM Modi’s agenda to visit Kashmir is to inaugurate the nationwide projects to develop the tourist sector, worth Rs 1400 crore. This project represents the Swadesh Darshan’ and ‘PRASHAD’ schemes. During his visit, he will also reveal the project at a public gathering in Srinagar on Thursday, worth Rs 6,400 crore. PM Modi will join the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu Kashmir’ programme in Bhakti Stadium and boost an initiative in the agricultural economy of the Union Territory worth Rs. 5000 crore.
It was a significant step for the BJP party to visit Kashmir and conduct such programmes; however, the opposing parties are pressuring for an announcement regarding the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election.
