Delhi surgeons witnessed The First successful case of bilateral transplantation in a 45 years old man. He will be released from hospital tomorrow.
New Delhi: A painter who lost both hands in a tragic accident is about to hold his brush again, all credits goes to the surgical excellence of a group of Delhi doctors.
The 45 year old , who’s case was the first bilateral hand transplantation in Delhi will be released from Sir Gangaram Hospital tomorrow. He has lost his hands in a train accident in 2020. Belonging from underprivileged background he was staring at a dead end.
But miracle awaited for him , the hands of Meena Mehta, former administrative head of prominent South Delhi school who was declared brain dead, came to 45 year old rescue. Ms Mehta during her lifetime pledged her organs to be used after her death.
Her kidneys liver and cornea has changed life of three others. And her hands have revived the dreams of a painter after a crushing setback.
But this would not have been possible without the hard work of the group of doctor’s effortfull task. The surgery which took more than 12 hours involves connecting every arteries, muscles , tendon and nerves between the donor’s hands and the recipient’s arms. Dedication paid off at the end when the team posted a photograph with double thumbs up by the painter who’s life regained new opportunities.
