New developments have been made in the murder case of a man from Punjab stabbing his wife to death in Canada. Canadian officials have shared further information regarding the case. In Abbotsford, British Columbia, Balwinder Kaur, a 41-year-old woman was found in a deteriorating state at her home on the 3400 block of Wagner Drive on 15th March 2024 as per officials.
Following the statement provided by the Canadian Integrated Homicude Investigation Team, the woman was immediately taken to a hospital and the doctors attempted to save her life, unfortunately, they were unsuccessful and she passed away. The victim’s husband, Jagprit Singh was arrested at the scene. It was later discovered that Jagprit had video-called his mother and told her that he killed his wife.
After further investigation by the Canadian Officials, it was revealed that Jagprit and Balwinder fought over money. According to a statement by Balwinder Kaur’s sister, Rajvinder Kaur to ‘The Indian Express’, “My sister’s husband had tried to kill my sister’s daughter-in-law.” According to Rajvinder, he always accused Balwinder for their lack of money. They came to Canada two weeks prior since Jagprit was not working and was unemployed. Jagprit and Balwinder got married to each other in 2000 and had a daughter and a son.
Contrary to Rajvinder’s statement Jagprit’s family said they were a happy couple. His brother said, “My brother called my mother and told her that he had accidentally injured his wife. He was asking for forgiveness.” His brother denied having any knowledge of what transpired that night between his brother and sister-in-law and has no idea what led to her death and further said that they had come from shopping a few hours prior.
Balwinder’s sister, Rajvinder, informed that Balwinder left for Canada in 2022 to fund her daughter’s education alone when Jagprit pressured her for money. In the beginning, Jagprit was a driver but quit his job when Balwinder sent him money.
Balwinder’s father, Himmat Singh has requested the Punjab and Central Government to help him in bringing Balwinder’s body to India so that they can perform her last rites.
