IPL franchise KKR(Kolkata knight riders) retired all-rounder Yusuf Pathan is all set to make his political debut as Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate from West Bengal’s Berhampore seat in Murshidabad district for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee announced Pathan’s candidature on sunday.
TMC has never won this seat in the past and now the party is focussing to turn that around in this election. According to the sources, the party has decided to approach Pathan as it was looking for a “minority face” for Behrampore, where 52 percent of the voters belongs from the minority community. Speaking to the media in Kolkata, Pathan said, “I have been given this opportunity by the TMC to be their voice and help them and I decided to take it up in a very short time. As representatives of the people, it is our duty to uplift the poor and deprived.”
“Your patience, kindness, help to the needy and service to people even without an official position can be easily noticed. I am confident that once you step into a political role, you will truly make a difference in the daily lives of people,” Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan’s brother wrote on X.
Pathan isn’t the only staggering fact in the list of 42 candidates announced by the TMC. This year, TMC has also included 25 other fresh faces.
Former cricketer, Kirti Azad, who joined TMC in November 2021 is contesting elections from Burdwan-Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency. Though, his name was already in the news after he shared stage with Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata last month.
