On Monday, an interfaith couple were troubled and attacked in Hyderabad. The video of the attack quickly became a hot topic on the internet which led to an investigation by Charminar Police and the arrest of 4 people.
In the video that went viral, a couple of Muslim men can be seen harassing and attacking a man with his wife wearing a burqa and their child. The Muslim men continuously beat the man, presuming him to be Hindu as they objected to him being in Charminar with a Muslim woman.
According to the police investigation of the video and incident, it was found that the Muslim man had insisted on evidence of his religion and demanded to perceive his Aadhaar card. In spite of requests by the burqa-clad woman, the man was assaulted repeatedly.
On Tuesday, a suo motu case was filed by the police and special forces were gathered to hunt down the assailants. The next day, four people were apprehended. The video that went viral was taken into as proof from the cell phones confiscated from the arrested men, assisting in the case.
P Chandrashekar, the Charminar ACP stated, “Four persons physically abused the couple. The woman had a baby with her. The accused had attempted to hurt the baby as well.” He further added, “The accused have been taken into custody and will be presented in court.”
