Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday inaugurated the ‘Severa’ Programme, aimed at the early detection and prevention of breast cancer, The scheme was initiated by Medanta Foundation in collaboration with the Health Department in Gurgaon.
The scheme, employed visually impaired women to help screen for breast cancer. these individuals possess unique qualities, they have natural tactile sensitivity. Visually impaired people can detect breast cancer up to half a centimetre, whereas a normal doctor can detect up to one centimetre, the CM said.
According to experts, breast cancer is diagnosed late, sometimes it is detected in stage 2, stage 3, and sometimes even in stage 4 and it Damages several parts of the body.
The Programme will be launched in the first phase at the Civil Hospital in Sector 10, the polyclinic in Sector 31, and PHC in Wazirabad. The CM said that breast cancer is one of the cancer types that mainly occurs in women living in cities. He also said that about 90,000 women across the country lose their lives due to breast cancer, daily.
Furthermore, he expressed his intention to expand this Programme to another district of the state following its successful implementation.
While sharing information about steps taken by the government, the chief minister Manohar Lal Khatar said that the National Cancer Institute at AIIMS has been established in Jhajjar district, which has been equipped with 1,000 beds. He also informed that the Atal cancer centre had been established in Ambala district to treat cancer patients.
