Climate activist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk who called off his hunger strike in Leh in Ladakh after 21 days on Tuesday, demanding statehood for Ladakh and inclusion in the sixth schedule in the constitution, said “pain of broken promises can not be presented as “anti-national”.
Wangchuk also said “I am not against the central government, all we want is him to keep his promises. Furthermore, he added, “We would just appeal to the central government not to be against Ladakh”.
“if you can not ask somebody to keep his promises or hold him accountable, better you be in China and born in China, not in a democratic country like India. We are just crying under the pain of broken promises that can not be presented as “anti-national. We are only demanding to protect our land, what is wrong with that. He added.
In an interview, he said, “This is now time for the nation to move and raise their voice and ask the government to choose between keeping their promises and guarantees work or providing everything that is just a farce. said Wangchuk
Additionally, he said that he is also appealing to the nation so that the nation make a dent in the election on the Ladakh issue.
While asking about what the promises were, he said that the safeguard of Ladakh under the sixth schedule of the constitution.
“in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections the central government had promised to safeguard Ladakh under the sixth schedule, this was their top agenda. But Months after they went silent and after years of reminding them about their promises they start disliking us. He further said we just want him to keep his promise nothing else Is that anti-national?”, He questioned.
After the end of the hunger strike while asking him about his future plans, he said “with the end of hunger strike the movement has not stopped but it is the beginning of a new movement.
