India’s capital, New Delhi has witnessed another terrifying crime. A newborn child was found on the side of the road in Yamunanagar, Delhi. As per details released, the child belonged to a 14-year-old girl. The young girl was molested by her stepfather and brother-in-law continuously.
Allegedly, on giving birth to the baby, the accused threw the infant into the Som River. The child was found by the Police and admitted to the district’s civil hospital while the minor has been since admitted to the Trauma Centre Yamunanagar. The girl’s stepfather and brother-in-law have been arrested since the unravelling of the stated facts. The accused have been booked under POCSO and IPC. They have been presented before the court.
Despite such strict regulations and laws set against a Sexual Assault Offender, it has not stopped people from committing such a crime. As per statistics released in 2023, one in every two children endures sexual abuse before turning 18 years of age by a family member. What is family? People one is bound by blood with, they give us comfort and we have faith in them but what if we start fearing them because of their actions? What if we develop hatred and feel immense anger towards them? Is it not valid to feel these emotions if an individual is being raped by their own family member when the same family member is expected to always protect them?
The impact of the sexual assault on the girl by her close ones, conceiving a child and then being separated from that child. This case is disturbing enough to know about, one cannot begin to imagine the trauma and series of emotions the girl would be facing.
