On Tuesday, social media platform X(formerly known as Twitter) was flooded with posts along with the phrase ‘whats wrong with India’ and by the evening, the phrase became a trend with over 2.5 lakh posts.
Many users on social media platforms began trending the hashtag ‘What’s wrong with India?’ and started sharing posts, photos, or videos. Not only that, but numerous memes also started circulating on the related topic and eventually on Wednesday, the hashtag became the top trend in India, with over three lakh posts.
The trend led to a massive outrage on social media followed by multiple accounts revealing their unpleasant travelling experiences in India while many X users said that the platform’s algorithm is deliberately promoting posts which had the phrase ‘what’s wrong with India’ to show the country in bad light. The accounts took this opportunity to tarnish India’s image in a way that such incidents are like a normal affair in the country.
However, the official handle of the citizen engagement platform of the government of India, @MyGovIndia, also participated in it, but with a humorous twist. It shared pictures of four news related to the achievements of the country. The government’s post is to present the country in a positive way, amidst all the negative posts.
Many X users also supported the government by sharing pictures and videos of similar incidents which took place in other countries with the very same caption of ‘What’s wrong with India’.
