A shocking twist linked to human trafficking occurred when a non-stop flight from Dubai heading directly for Nicaragua became grounded in France with more than 300 Indian passport holders on board. The Indian embassy in France is working to clear up the situation and has assured that sufficient care would be taken of them while they are detained at an airport by French officials.
The aircraft was being flown by a charter company in Romania, and on its way to Geneva it stopped at the Vatry airport for refueling. It was detained there after a tip-off (from whom?) from an ordinary member of the public. To find out the nature of the trip and its conditions, French police departments including anti-organized crime unit JUNALCO mounted a judicial inquiry. After having the passengers, who were mostly of Indian ancestry, wait on board for half a day at first and to sharing some supplies with other flights that arrived later.
Information seems to indicate that the A340 flown by Legend Airlines was a jetliner of Romanian company British Air Transport (BAT). The passengers are now being detained for possible illegal immigration and the sealed-off airport is waiting to find out their true intentions in traveling.
Some of the passengers might have been illegal migrants, according to comments made by local officials about their doubts that the suspects were involved in a human trafficking crime. French police are trying to determine whether the passengers had intended plans themselves and just happened to be headed for Central America or whether it was indeed part of some plot calling for attempted entry into either the U.S. or Canada illegally?
As their reception hall is filled with makeshift waiting space, these apprehended passengers become the subjects of a high-stakes inquiry. The grounded plane itself has become the mark of anti-human trafficking efforts, with many taking a hard look at what factors led to such an incredible case of an international incident.
