The NIA conducted searches in 10 states including Assam, Tripura, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Puducherry, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir as reported by ANI.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday raided 10 states at 40 locations to uncover the racket of human traffickers having international links, ANI reported NIA sources as saying.
Two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested Wednesday morning from Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu during the search, one of them named Shahid Hussain who allegedly entered India illegally from Bangladesh and obtained a fake Aadhar card.
During a raid in Jammu and Kashmir , a Rohingya Muslim from Myanmar , named Zafar Alam was identified, PTI reported. the operation took place approximately by 2a.m in the Bathindi area of Jammu and Kashmir. These raids were specifically targeted to slum area where Myanmar immigrants reside and were carried out in relation to a case involving violations of the Passports Act and human trafficking , as confirmed by the official in Jammu.
A team of NIA arrested an accused named Imran Khan, from Tamil Nadu in a Sri Lankan human trafficking case earlier this month. Imran with other, co-accused trafficked Sri Lankan nationals to Bengaluru and Mangaluru. The national agency, NIA had taken over control of the case from local police given its international dimensions.
Acc to a report by The Hindu , the NIA had filled a preliminary chargesheet against five Indian accused in the case: Dhinakaran alias Ayya, Kasi Viswanathan, Rasool, Satham Ushen, and Abdul Muheetu, in October 2021. A total number of 13 suspects were brought to the court in the case by the end of October this year.
NIA has a special human – trafficking probe unit that looks at cases that have international ramifications.
