On January 9, the judge overviewing the Tupac Shakur Murder Case set the bail of a former-Los Angeles Gang-Leader at $750,000. Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis was charged with the killing of the sensational hip-hop icon, Tupac Amaru Shakur in 1996. The accused has been sentenced to a house-arrest with electronic-monitoring before his trial in June. The attorneys appointed by the court for Davis appealed for a bail ‘not more than’ $100,000.
The lawyers of the accused stated that their client has been in danger and that Davis’s health has deteriorated since his battle with Cancer. The prosecutors were accused of manipulating the recording of a conversation that took place over the Jail Telephone and making an incorrect statement against the 60 year-old accused man by stating that he poses a ‘threat’ to the society. They were also accused of misreporting the list of names given to the accused man’s family members.
The prosecution did not file that Davis intended to harm anyone physically but they made a statement suggesting that in Davis’s world, a green light meant an “authorisation to kill”. The defence also questioned the reason for the Police to wait for 15 long years before arresting Duane for Tupac’s murder, “If Duane is so dangerous, and the evidence so overwhelming,” they wrote, “why did (police and prosecutors) wait 15 years to arrest Duane for the murder of Tupac Shakur?”.
The prosecution then proceeded to emphasise on the defendant’s 2008 Police Interviews in which Davis’s words were allegedly an evidence proving his involvement in Tupac’s Death. Davis’ lawyers claim the evidence to be “done for entertainment purposes” and to earn money. The defendant has plead not guilty to the murder of Tupac. Since then, he has been in prison without the possibility of being bailed. He was at the Clark County Detention Centre in Las Vegas.
Davis claims that he was provided ‘immunity’ in 2008 by the prosecution and the police task force involved in the murder case of Shakur. DiGiacomo and Palal said that any immunity agreement was applicable for a limited duration of time. They presented audio recordings of a December 18, 2008, task force interview. Duane’s attorneys then presented publications of a book written by former LA Police Detective, Greg Kading. The detective was present at the interviews. “Duane is not worried,” the attorneys said, “because his alleged involvement in the death of Shakur has been out in the public since … 2011.”
Tupac Shakur’s murder has been in limelight since over two-decades. Davis is the only person alive from the car that fired shots. He has been a person involved in many criminal activities so is it true that he will not pose a threat to the society in the near future?
