Jailed Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi was awarded the Nobel peace prize on Friday for the extensive efforts to promote human rights and freedom for all. She has been imprisoned 13 times and convicted five times. Mohammadi most recent incarceration began after she attended a memorial for Mahsa Amini.
The 22 year’s old death in police custody had sparked a massive wave of outrage and widespread demonstration against Iran’s last year’s. She hold a degree in physics and started her career as an engineer.
She emerged as an advocate for equality and women’s rights during her academic year. She was also arrested at two meeting of a political students group. She lost her engineering post in 2009 following in jail sentence.
She worked as a journalist for several reformist publication and campaigned women’s right and right to protest . She has written many articles for school reform in Iran . She was arrested for the first time in 2011 and sentenced to many years.
She is the 19th women to ever win the Nobel peace prize and the second Iranian women to win the award after human right activist Shirin Ebadi in 2003. She received various awards over the year from the “Alexander Langer Award in 2009 the UNESCO ” “She arrested 13 times , convicted her 5 time’s , and sentenced her a total of 31 year’s in prison and 154 lashes”
