In Delhi, a Grade 6 12-Year Old student died on January 20 after being physically assaulted by senior students at his school on January 11. The boy was a student at a government school in Shastri Nagar. The Government of Delhi has initiated an investigation into the matter. Three doctors carried out an autopsy as per the Police’s request. The Police released a statement saying that all legalities will be performed on the basis of the post-mortem report. The young boy’s family revealed the bullying and abuse that took place at school. They also reported the doctor’s ignorance.
The 12-Year Old Boy was taken to a Government Hospital for treatment. As the orthopaedic department was closed that day, they approached a private doctor. When the child’s health worsened, they took him back to the Government Hospital where he died due to his condition. “We have asked them to lodge a written complaint with us. The autopsy on the boy’s body was conducted on Tuesday, and the report is awaited. Further legal action would be taken accordingly” said Manoj Kumar Meena, Deputy Commissioner Of Police (North).
The School’s head has been asked to provide a formal statement and the committee will be filing the information in two days. Allegedly, the students involved in the case are from Grades 9 and 10. Although, two students verified the assault, there is no information about the offender’s identity. The school administration has assured the family that strict action will be taken against the ill-doing. The Government is currently investigating the case and spreading awareness among students to ensure a healthy environment for all children and to stop bullying.
Bullying and physical abuse has been emphasised and spoken about several times yet it has not been able to create an impact on the minds of children. Why does a person need to resort to physical violence especially against such a young child? Will justice be provided? What changes are we going to see after this case in the school and judicial environment?
