The tragic death of a young farmer during clashes with security forces at the interstate border of Punjab and Haryana has provoked farmer’s protest, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced Black Friday over youth farmer death. Rakesh Tilak, a former leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union(BKU), stated that the SMK will lead a tractor march on the highway toward the national capital. Although an alliance of over forty Indian farmer’s unions, formed in 2020 coordinate satyagraha against the now repealed three farms acts has decided to stay away from the fresh agitation.
On Friday, the Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh committee target the Punjab government for its failure to file an FIR regarding the tragic death of the protesting youth at the Khanauri border. Sarwan Singh Pradhan, the general secretary of the Punjab Kisan Mazdoor committee expressed deep sorrow, condemning the government’s disrespectful treatment towards the martyrs.
The farmer leader shared the discussion with the Punjab government regarding the unfortunate dismissal of Subhkaran Singh. “All our demands were accepted, including the case under section 302 (murder)filed against the attackers, the Punjab government gave the ‘martyr’ status to Subhkaran Singh, that discussion on compensation be held with his family, and establishing a board for his postmortem with videography. Despite over 14 hours passing, we have not received any response from the Punjab government” said by the farmer leader.
“When you give trust, why don’t they live up to the trust? Either there is some problem with the officers. Only they can know what the problem is . Now Subhkaran Singh’s body is still in the hospital. Punjab government is insulting the martyrdom of our martyrs, this is condemnable,’’ said the Pander Punjab chief minister announcing a financial assistance of ₹1 crore to the family of the victim, along with offering a government job to his sister.
