Two members of a family were shot dead, and four others injured while they were returning from Chhath puja rituals in Bihar’s Lakhi Sarai district on Monday.
The victims were murdered on Monday morning in Punjabi Mohalla of Lakhi Sarai area when they were returning back from offering prayers at Chhath Ghat.
The three injured, including two women were in critical condition when admitted to Begusarai Sadar Hospital. Later they were shifted to Patna Medical College for further treatment.
Three of the injured are in critical condition, Lakhi Sarai Supretendant of Police Pankaj Kumar told ANI. Further adding that “The matter is related to a love affair.
The deceased have been identified as Chandan Kumar and Rajnandan Kumar, and the injured are Lovely Kumari, Preeti Kumari, Durga Kumari and Shashi Bhushan Kumar, all from the same family.
SP Pankaj Kumar told ANI, “The accused allegedly named, Ashish Choudhary who is a neighbor of the victim opened fire on them. He wanted to marry a girl related to victim’s family, but they were not ready for this”.
The Police have recovered the murder weapon and investigation are underway.
BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla have slammed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after the tragic incident saying “In Lakhisarai , when some members of a family were returning home after offering prayers, they were shot point blank without any fear of law.” Further adding that “Since RJD has come to power with Nitish Kumar criminal dominance has increased in Bihar turning the state into Jungle Raj where criminals are not afraid of the consequences of committing a crime.
The BJP was in power in Bihar- in alliance with Nitish Kumar’s JDU till he left the party in August last year and joined Lalu Yadav’s RJD.
