Water cannons were being used on the protesting Anganwadi workers in order to disperse them as they ‘gheraoed’ the Vidhan Sabha with their demands in Bihar, ANI reported.
Acc. to the reports one of the protestors fainted during the incident but the Police continued to use the water cannons to disperse the crowd from the place.
These Anganwadi workers stand in protest with their demands of :
- Seeking immediate release of their 12-month pending wages
- Regularization of their services
- Better working conditions
- Facilities like insurance
- Be classified as government employees
These protests are held with the support of All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers and the protestors warned that they would intensify the agitation if their demands were not fulfilled.
There are a total no. of 13.96 lakh Anganwadis and the plight of these workers is same all across the India therefore similar protests are being held around the whole country asking to meet the same demands.
“ASHA and Mid-day Meal Workers go through the same situation” one of the protestors told NewsClick.
Acc. to a report by the NewsClick for the last eight months, the mid-day meal workers have not received their salaries and the condition of ASHA workers is no different. The workers complain that in many districts of Uttar Pradesh Anganwadi workers are not paid their monthly wages mentioning that the condition is worse post-election.
