According to an investigation, the Rajasthani woman was staying in hostels on the pretext of a job interview and offloading the stolen laptops into the secondary electronics market.
Police have identified the accused as the mastermind of stealing laptops from hostels and PGs. Her name is Jassu Agarwal. A B.Tech. graduate student resident of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. She used to stay in PGs with the pretext of job interviews, offloading the stolen laptops into the secondary electronics market. B. Dayananda, Bengaluru Police Commissioner, stated that a 29-year-old woman from Rajasthan has been arrested for stealing laptops from various paying guest accommodations and hotels in Bengaluru. 24 laptops worth Rs 10 lakh have been seized from her, and further investigation is underway.
Aggarwal’s genre was to steal laptops from hostels during meal times and evacuate the hostel within a week or two. Her areas of theft is Tin Factory, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Silk Board, Hebbal, Mahadevapura, and Whitefield. After that, she used to sell the stolen laptops on the secondary electronics market. She earned up to 5000 to 15000 rupees by selling the laptops.
After getting a sum of money, she used to go back to her hometown, Rajasthan. A complaint was lodged under the HAL police jurisdiction in September 2022; after that, Agarwal came under scrutiny for the first time. Later, police found CCTV footage showing someone escaping with three laptops. When police went for further inquiries, more incidents came in front, which made the police more confident to arrest Aggarwal.
