A 21-year-old NEET-preparing student faked her kidnapping and claimed 30 lakhs as ransom money to fly away abroad with her friends. The girl was identified as Kavya. According to a report, her mother sent her to a hostel to take coaching classes in Kota, but in 2023, she only spent 3 days in Kota. She is yet to be traced. According to Kota Police, Kavya continued to share pictures with her mother to make her believe that she was in Rajasthan, where her mother left her to study.
The incident got highlighted when her parents, who are residents of Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri, got a 30 lakh ransom demand along with their daughter’s picture, where Kavya is tied to ropes. After that, Kavya’s father, Raghuveer Dhakad, lodged a police complaint claiming that her daughter was kidnapped. According to the Superintendent of Police, Amrita Duhan, right after the complaint was lodged, police started an investigation where they found Kavya was last seen in Indore on Tuesday evening. After the investigation went further, it was found that Kavya stayed only three days in Kota, then moved to Indore, where she was living with her two male friends.
As per the information from one of her friends who was cooperating with the police, she and the friends with whom she lives now wanted to go abroad, but due to a lack of money, she prepared this drama to get money to travel with her friends. The pictures where it shows that she was kidnapped were all fake.
Circle Inspector Satish Chaudhary said that the three of those accused switched their phones off, and the police didn’t find any admission-related files in Kota, where she was supposed to study. SP Duhab stated that the actual circumstances would be clear only after the woman is rescued, and once Kavya is traced and rescued, it will be clear if she did this under pressure or free will.
