In New York, 20-year old Trevor Bickford of Wells ‘plead guilty’ to federal terrorism charges. He was involved in a machete attack on Three-New York Police Department Officers on New Year’s Evening, 2022. The accused plead guilty on Thursday to the killing of officers and employees of the United States of America’s Government. The incident took place around 10:00Pm on 31st December, 2022. Allegedly, Trevor attempted to strike an officer in the head and then proceeded to hit two other officers with a weapon. As a defence, one officer shot the accused man in the shoulder.
Two of the officers were treated for deep cuts and one officer suffered a skull fracture. The man claims to have orchestrated the attack in the name of ‘Jihad’. Bickford will face at most 20-years of Prison for each criminal offence he made. “Bickford targeted the iconic yearly celebration to carry out brazen acts of violence and hatred in the name of jihad. Bickford, as with countless others who have carried out acts of terrorism in support of misguided ideologies, is now going to spend lengthy time exactly where he deserves – in federal prison” said U.S Attorney Damian Williams.
What is Jihad? Despite this word emphasising on a ‘Holy War’ it is often used without relevance to religion. So what exactly was the motive of the 20-year old man? Who was he trying to fight?. His attempt at inflicting harm on the Police-Men in a crowded zone could have affected the lives of many people present at Times Square that day. The Police saved themselves and the lives of many others who were threatened. Strict action will be taken against Trevor Bickford.
