In Kolkata, a Kidderpore resident was arrested on Tuesday for alleged involvement in the death of an 18-Year old girl. Her deceased body was found frozen in Ladakh’s Zanskar area. The victim was missing since November 26, 2023. A local in the Kargil region has been arrested as well. This was a case of cybercrime. The victim transferred an amount of Rs.57,838 in several transactions to the offender, Farukh Khan. The funds were deposited in the Amtala Branch in South 24 Parganas.
“The Ladakh Police sought a 10-day transit remand. In court, we presented evidence of multiple transactions between the victim and the accused before her demise, necessitating further inquiry. The transit remand was granted” said Sourin Ghoshal, Public Prosecutor. This case is being investigated by the Kolkata and Kargil Police. Investigation is ongoing to identify all offenders involved in such a crime. “This is an entirely new phenomenon, and we want to understand the precise connections and financial transactions” said an official.
The victim killed herself after the immense pressure and threats she faced. Crucial evidence has been gathered against Farukh. The father of the missing girl made a complaint when he couldn’t find her anywhere. Local Residents helped the Police recover the deceased body from the Lungnak River near Padum in January.
Cybercrime is one of the most serious crimes. A victim is often vulnerable as he/she are unaware of what more could happen and how it would negatively impact them. When we feel that our privacy and information is being compromised even a little bit, we are scared and we believe the worst. The unimaginable fear and stress the young girl went through led her to kill herself. The suspects will be subject to jurisdiction.
